About Us

Located in Carpinteria, Corktree Cellars opened in 2008 as a “Wine, Bar & Bistro” owned and operated by Jessica and Kevin Clark. Corktree was a unique place for locals and visitors to hang for a wine flight, a small bite, and a warm atmosphere. “When we opened in the spring of 2008, our goal was to create a casual and inviting atmosphere where friends could get together, relax over a glass of wine and share some great food.” After several successful years and surviving COVID, Jess and Kevin decided to sell their “first born.” That’s when I told my son I had a crazy idea that would get us back to a home base in our happy place.
Trey and I lived in Carpinteria when Cork opened. Originally from Santa Barbara, I grew up half my life in Portland, OR showing horses and spent years after college touring in a band, landing in AZ. I eventually decided to move my son and I back to CA and my cousins said, “come to Carpinteria!” Trey and I spent years here and fell in love. I was a regular at Cork and became fast friends with Jessica spurred by people regularly thinking we were sisters. Our biggest moment for me was during 2009 while my Mom was losing her battle with cancer. Jessica chose me as a Club Kind recipient giving me a card that read, “nothing should keep you from seeing your Mom.” I was a single mom and had just lost my job in finance when the market crashed. Jess’s philanthropy left an indelible mark on me that brings tears to my eyes to this day.
Trey and I moved to Ventura for several years where he graduated from Foothill Tech and then headed off to University of Oregon. A year later I was fortunate to take a position in OR with my long-term employer and we navigated COVID together. In 2021 I had a call with Jessica that changed everything. Trey agreed to take a break from college to help me launch into our new adventure. We packed up and drove with our dog, Simba, from OR to CA to embark on this new chapter. July of 2022 Corktree Cellars became ours! Being the new owners of Corktree is full circle for my son and me. This acquisition has been us taking the baton from Jessica and Kevin to continue something amazing. Cork now has a full bar, expanded menu, live music and big screen TVs for those of us who are sports enthusiasts. We are a prime local spot for people who like good food & drink, and a great vibe. Locals and visitors are finding a home here at Corktree, which is what the vision has always been. I hope you come see us soon!
